Student Colloquium 2001: "You've Graduated…, Now What Are You Going To Do?"

Matthew W. Hulver, Ph.D.

The 2001 Student Colloquium was held Wednesday, May 30, 2001 in Baltimore, Maryland at the ACSM National Convention. The colloquium was intended to provide students with some insight into potential career avenues upon graduation. Three speakers participated in this year's colloquium and discussed career options from academic, clinical, and health and fitness areas. Our speakers were Jeffrey Potteiger, Ph.D., FACSM from Virginia Common Wealth University who discussed career options and expectations in academia; Joyce Kratz-Klatt, MS, ETT from Kootenai Medical Center, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Couer D'Alene, Idaho who discussed various clinical opportunities; and Jason Conviser, Ph.D., FACSM, Vice President, Bally's Total Fitness who presented employment options within the fitness industry. The colloquium was well received and attendance was good.

It is important to note, that the Student Affairs Committee puts great pride into the annual student colloquium and it is the committee's intention to provide topics that maximize the interest and attendance of the ACSM student members. It is customary to collect surveys at the end of each year's colloquium and use the comments of the student and faculty in attendance as a basis for the determination of future topics and speakers. The comments are always very helpful. It would also serve the student members of ACSM well to communicate with their regional student representatives and provide topics of interest for future student colloquiums. Thank you to this year's speakers and to all who were in attendance. See you next year in St. Louis!
