STUDENT AFFAIRS
Welcome to
the Student Newsletter section. In addition to scholar-related
information, this page is supplemented quarterly with articles written
by members of the Student Affairs Committee (SAC). The needs of students
are an important factor in the overall future success of this
organization, and we as a group of volunteers hope to provide you with
some information that enhances your life as a student. The SAC includes
twelve students in the U.S. who have been elected by our ACSM regional
chapters; a board liaison who is elected by the entire membership, and a
staff liaison who coordinates communication and action items. The
purpose of the SAC is to act as a facilitator between the students and
both the Board of Trustees and the general population of
ACSM.
If you have ideas for
future articles, want to see specific information in this section, or
have questions and/or comments, please do not hesitate to e- mail Karen
J. Pierce, our staff liaison at the ACSM National Office at kjpierce@acsm.org

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES
Did you know that many discounts are available to
students through ACSM? Student membership allows a significantly lower
fee for yearly membership, while maintaining all the same benefits as a
full member. Also, all meeting registration fee structures have a
special student section that allows a generous
discount.
Involvement at the "grass roots" level of
ACSM - through our Regional Chapters - is an excellent way for many
students to gain the experience they need. You can serve on committees,
submit research papers at regional meetings, voice student concerns
locally, and gain networking opportunities with distinguished ACSM
members.
