ACSM in
collaboration with the National Society for Physical Activity
Practitioners in Public Health (NSPAPPH) launches new specialty
certification: ACSM/NSPAPPH Physical Activity in Public Health Specialist
(PAPHS).
ACSM Certification is Leading the Way with the National Society for
Physical Activity Practitioners in Public Health to offer a specialty
certification for professionals working in promoting physical
activity specifically focused on the public health
setting.
Regular
physical activity benefits include reduced risk of premature mortality
and of morbidity from many common chronic diseases and have been found
to be an effective treatment. Despite substantial health benefits from
moderate amounts of physical activity, more than half of American adults
do not engage in enough physical activity to receive health benefits.
Professionals have the potential to make a significant contribution by
earning the specialty certification to effectively plan, implement, and
evaluate population based physical activity.
