What is ACSM’s greatest strength and how would you make that aspect of the organization even stronger?

I believe that the ACSM a coalition of incredibly knowledgeable professionals in a broad range of medical, sports sciences, health, fitness and ancillary areas.  The greatest strength of the College is its increasing effort to build the relationships and associations that allow the expertise of the College to have an impact on society – fostering and educating the public’s efforts to maintain health and vitality.  It would be very easy for our scholars and practitioners to become focused within their own bailiwick – to be insular within their teaching, research, practice, and work with clients.  I believe we have to constantly be striving to expand the reach and influence of the College in the interest of enhancing the implementation and application of the knowledges and practices that the membership of the College commands.

The College has served as my professional base as I have moved through my career of teaching, Appalachian State University and University of Kentucky; coaching, ASU; working in the public health technology sector; and most prominently at for the United States Olympic Committee.  Members of the College have provided advice and guidance, served on advisory committees, volunteered as faculty for coaches’ colleges and worked directly with our Olympic athletes.  I am grateful for all the College has done for me and look forward to serving as a Trustee as partial repayment of the debt.  Over the years I have been involved at both the national level by presenting and serving on committees and within the Rocky Mountain Chapter having served as President twice.

ACSM works closely with many other organizations, including associations, companies, philanthropies, and governmental agencies. Indicate those organizations/companies/agencies for which you play an advisory, consulting, or leadership role:

I am a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Power Plate and Colorado Altitude Training.  I am also employed by the USOC.
