1. Please list your previous service to ACSM.

I became a fellow of ACSM in 1995. I have served on the following committees:

 Chair, International Relations Committee   2008-2014
 International Relations Committee (member)  2003-2008
Chair International Student Award (sub-committee)   2003-2007
Southeast ACSM (SEACSM) Executive Board  1998-2001
 Committee and Registry Boards    1996-1999
  Membership Committee  1993-1999

2.  What is ACSM’s greatest strength and how would you make that aspect of the organization even stronger?

One of ACSM’s greatest strengths, as reflected in our mission, is the dissemination of knowledge from scientific research and practical applications for exercise science and sports.  Two vehicles to relay this information are through ACSM publications and the Committee on Certification and Registry Boards (CCRB). I have been involved with ACSM’s certifications for more than 20 years, serving as Certification and Workshop Director at domestic and international sites.

If elected to the Board of Trustees, I will try to make these two components (publications and certification/registry) even stronger through soliciting involvement from selected ACSM members, promoting these endeavors among students, continuing my individual contributions, and fostering collaborations with other allied organizations and associations.   I will also try to ensure that the College is well represented in the international community and will promote the cultivation of relationships with national and international organizations.

3.  ACSM works closely with many other organizations, including associations, companies, philanthropies, and governmental agencies. Indicate those organizations/companies/agencies for which you play an advisory, consulting, or leadership role.

I joined the American Physiological Society (APS) in 1995 and I have been a member of its Medical Physiology Course Director Community since 2012. I joined The Obesity Society (TOS) in 2000 and I currently serve on its Scientific Review Committee (2016-2018), and Education Committee (2017-2019). I also currently serve as an alternate panelist in the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA; 2015-2018).

I have served on the SEACSM Executive Board (1998-2001), as an SEACSM coordinator for the state of Florida (1998-2001), and facilitated the SEACSM Fall Lecture Tour in 1997.

If elected to the Board of Trustees, my intent would be to strengthen the collaborations between ACSM and the aforementioned associations.
