Resources for Re-Opening Fitness Facilities amid COVID-19 Concerns

In consideration of the COVID-19 pandemic, safety measures and precautions must be taken when approaching a return to various activities. ACSM has created and curated a number of resources on the reopening of fitness facilities, sporting event considerations and returning to training/ play after illness. ACSM is dedicated to supporting the exercise science and sports medicine community, particularly with resources that can be utilized during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Medically integrated fitness centers feature enhanced professional expertise and programming necessary to safely and effectively assist people, especially those with chronic disease and multiple health risks. While safety and cleanliness were often already high priorities for medical fitness centers, the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly brought those issues further into the forefront, along with other issues which must be considered as facilities re-open to their communities. David Flench, MBA, ACSM-CEP, EIM2, and Brad A. Roy, Ph.D., FACSM provide considerations for medical fitness facilities.

1)  Promote and advance professions related to the science of exercise as medicine;
