About Us

Welcome to the Texas ACSM website!

I am honored to serve you as Texas ACSM President.  The continuing focus of the Texas Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (TACSM) is to inspire students to become more involved in exercise science-based research by providing support and opportunities to allow this to happen.  As always, we invite you to serve our chapter and get involved as well.

I would like to thank Dr. Jenn Blevins-McNaughton, TASCM Past-President, and her team from Tarleton State University for the diligent planning and hard work in completing another outstanding annual meeting this past spring on the Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus in Ft. Worth.  We continue our streak of record attendance at the annual meeting with over 800 attendees.

The chapter had great representation at the ACSM Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL in June.  I am delighted to inform to inform the TACSM membership that our chapter representative for the President’s Cup competition, Sara Peper, took home First Place.  This is an award that is chosen as the best poster/poster presentation at the ACSM Annual Meeting in a competition across the 12 regional ACSM chapters.  Sara, an undergraduate student from the University of Texas at Arlington, was selected to represent TACSM by winning the judged posters competition at our TACSM annual meeting earlier this year.  I would also like to note that the President’s Cup competition typically does not include undergraduates based on the rationale that they would not be able to compete with Masters or PhD students.  This is an exceptional honor for Sara as well as for our chapter in general as this is the first time that the TACSM representative has won the President’s Cup competition.  The TACSM Social at the Annual Meeting was a huge success with great attendance.  Special thanks to Dr. Hiro Tanaka from UT Austin for his leadership in planning and supervising this annual event.

The 2020 TACSM Annual Meeting will be held Thursday, February 20th and Friday February 21st 2020 at the Waco Convention Center in Waco, TX.  Due to the increasing size of attendance to the meeting and feedback from last year’s meeting suggesting a more central location site, we chose to move the annual meeting to Waco this year.  The convention center is easily accessed with ample parking and nearby restaurants and evening social.  Please save the dates and look for upcoming announcements about the meeting in the Fall.  I have been actively preparing an exciting program and hope that all will find the speakers engaging and inspiring.  We will continue to have both clinical and science tracks this year to provide more scientific breadth to the meeting.  Additionally, the highlight of the meeting will be the annual TACSM Student Bowl competition and student scientific posters presentation and awards.  Please make sure to check for all our abstract and award deadlines in the coming months.

Please check out the TACSM website (www.tacsm.org) to make sure your membership is up to date, check annual conference updates, and get links to the national American College of Sports Medicine site.

We look forward to seeing you all at the annual meeting in the Spring!
