Preconference

Student and Early Career Preconference
Focus: Careers in Exercise Science

Tues., May 26  3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

The Student and Early Career Preconference is designed to provide career guidance for graduate students and early career professionals. It will include highlighted lectures:

  • Barry Braun, Ph.D., FACSM - Dr. Braun will focus on beginning your academic career
  • Eric Rawson, Ph.D., FACSM - Dr. Rawson will focus on merging science with human performance

Following each highlighted lecture will be a panel discussion in each of these areas: 

  • Job Interviews
  • Careers with an Exercise Science Degree
  • Grant writing for Young Investigators Applying for ACSM Foundation Grants

The valuable time between the end of the Colloquium, and the start of the Student Bowl, is where students can gain insights and meet representatives from various companies. As you are enjoying light hors d'oeuvres, mingle with other grad students who are looking to make connections with health and fitness professionals outside academia. 13th Annual Student Bowl

Wed., May 27  7:30 – 9:00 p.m.

Cheer on your regional chapter at the 13th annual Student Bowl. In this popular event, students face off in a friendly, Jeopardy-style competition showcasing their sports medicine and exercise science knowledge. Teams qualify to participate by winning their regional events and/or being nominated by their ACSM Regional Chapter. For more information about a regional bowl event near you, contact your local ACSM Regional Chapter. Visit the ACSM website for a list of Regional Chapters and contact information. A light reception is included.

President's Cup Poster Competition

Thurs., May 28   2:00-5:15 p.m.

Come support regional chapter winner's during this exciting live competition. Starting in the fall of 2019, regional chapters hold individual student research competitions at their respective annual meetings. These 12 winners will now compete with each other in San Francisco on Thursday. Attendees can view the poster-style research in late afternoon before the live judging takes place. Each winner will have the opportunity to explain their research, and interact with our judges starting at 4:00 p.m. Stay until the end - the winner will be announced at 5:15 p.m., with a photo opp following!

2:00-3:00 p.m. - Regional winners post their abstracts in the poster hall
3:00-4:00 p.m. - Posters are available for attendee viewing
4:00-5:00 p.m. - Regional winners will be at their poster for live judging
5:15 p.m. - Winner announced and photo opp with an ACSM President

Fri., May 29  12:00-12:45 p.m.
