Research Grants/Awards

ACSM's Foundation Research Grant Program started in 1989 with one research initiative in basic and applied science, and it awarded $50,000 among five doctoral research students. In 2014, the Foundation awarded approximately $140,000 among 24 research students. Grants in this program and other programs are outlined below.

Carl V. Gisolfi Memorial Fund

Deadline:
Jan 16, 2015, 17:00 PM
Amount:
$5,000.00 USD

Carl V. Gisolfi, Ph.D., FACSM, was one of the most influential leaders of ACSM in its 50+ year history. With Gatorade, ACSM created the Gisolfi Memorial Fund to honor his many contributions to ACSM and the exercise science field. This grant is designated to encourage research in thermoregulation, exercise, and hydration.  In support of the mission to increase diversity at ACSM, special consideration is given to minority applicants and proposals addressing minority health issues. One award will be dispersed to ACSM doctoral students in the amount of $5,000 each for a one-year period.

The 2015 ACSM Foundation Research Grant Program application will be available in the fall. There are two parts to the application. Both Part A and Part B must be submitted as one complete PDF application. Applicants for student research grants must have graduate student status during the term of the grant to be considered for funding. Applicants must be current members of ACSM at the time of submitting an application to be funded. Grants are open to all ACSM members, including international members. However, the NASA initiative is open to U.S. residents only.

The deadline for the 2015 grant application is 5:00 PM ET on January 16, 2015.
