Student Awards

ACSM invests in the future of sports medicine and exercise science by giving to our student members. Student members are eligible for grants and awards to offset the rising costs of tuition and travel. Upcoming student award opportunities are listed below. 

Priscilla Clarkson Undergraduate Travel Award

Established in memory of Priscilla M. Clarkson, Ph.D., FACSM, the Priscilla M. Clarkson Student Travel Award will be awarded annually to an undergraduate student presenting at ACSM's Annual Meeting.  Dr. Clarkson was devoted to creating an exemplary undergraduate educational experience at a large, public university.

In 2018, the American College of Sports Medicine Foundation will offer one (1), $1,000 travel award through the Priscilla Clarkson Memorial Fund.  The purpose of the award is to provide assistance to help fund travel expenses accrued by one (1) undergraduate student to present his/her scholarly work at ACSM's Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, MN.

Award requirements include:

  1. Must be a Bachelor’s student in good standing at the time of submission of the abstract for ACSM's Annual Meeting and an ACSM member. 
  2. Abstract, based on research performed as an undergraduate, must have the applicant as the first author and have been accepted by the program committee for presentation at the annual meeting (e.g. free communication/slide, free communication/poster, clinical case study). 
  3. Must have a faculty sponsor, who must sign the application indicating that the student is in good standing and is responsible for the research abstract being presented. 
  4. A letter (no longer than one page) from the applicant describing: a) the importance of the research being presented; and b), how the research experience influences her/his future career.
