Student Awards

ACSM invests in the future of sports medicine and exercise science by giving to our student members. Student members are eligible for grants and awards to offset the rising costs of tuition and travel. Upcoming student award opportunities are listed below. 

Steven M. Horvath Travel Award

The Steven M. Horvath Travel Award funds travel expenses for underrepresented minority graduate students traveling to ACSM's Annual Meeting to present their scholarly work. 

This award is given in memory of Steven M. Horvath, Ph.D., FACSM, who received the ACSM Citation Award in 1971.

Award requirements include:

  1. Must be an underrepresented minority (as defined by NIH) graduate student in good standing with a research focus related to sports medicine and/or exercise sciences.
  2. Must be presenting a research project at ACSM's Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, MN.
Winners receive a $500 award to pay for travel expenses to attend and present research at ACSM's 65th Annual Meeting, 9th World Congress on Exercise is Medicine and World Congress on The Basic Science of Muscle Hypertrophy and Atrophy.
