FAQ - CECs & CMEs

• What is the processing fee for self-tests?

  ACSM will accept printed copies of self-tests that are still valid. The processing fee per issue is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Please be sure to check the expiration date located on the test prior to mailing with payment. Expired tests will not be accepted.

   All future self-tests and previous issues that are still valid can be found at www.onlinelearning-acsm.org. Processing fees for online tests are $25. ACSM Members can receive a $5 discount of designated self-tests with the Member Discount Code. Please email membership@acsm.org if you need to obtain the Member Discount Code. 

• How do I find out how many CECs I have?

  ACSM is no longer tracking CECs earned. Please keep all documentation of CECs earned in your records for your re-certification.

  **Self-tests have have previously been mailed into ACSM or that are mailed in the future will appear on your record through www.acsm.org to indicate processing of the tests. Please keep the credit verification letter for your own records.

• How do I get my certificate documenting my credits from attending the ACSM Health & Fitness Summit or the ACSM Annual Meeting?

  To get your credits for the Annual Meeting or Health & Fitness Summit & Exposition, you need to log into our website using the red LOGIN box at the upper-right. Once you are in, click on ACSM Credit Verification under the 'My History' section. At the bottom, the activities you have attended will be listed. Click on the meeting you wish to view. The certificate can be viewed by clicking on the PDF form. A drop down box should appear where you can pick if your credits are CECs or CMEs. Once you have made your choice, click view. Your certificate will pop up, and you can print it for your records. There is also the option of emailing it to yourself or a third party for verification purposes.

• Do my college courses count towards my ACSM re-certification?

  ACSM will recognize college credits as long as the course meets these requirements:

  1. You receive a C or better in the course.
  2. You receive college credit for the course (no audit classes).
  3. The course is directly related to your certification.

  If your courses meet these requirements, ACSM will award 10 ACSM CECs per college credit hour. So a three college credit hour course equals 30 ACSM CECs. Please keep a copy of your transcripts to use when you are due to renew. You may be required to send them in to document where you earned your credits. If you have more detailed questions on acceptable courses or other re-certification questions, contact ACSM Certification.

• I went to a program that was not endorsed by ACSM. Will I receive ACSM CECs?

  The ACSM Certification & Registry Department will recognize CECs, CMEs or CEUs awarded by other professional health and fitness or clinical organizations for attending their programs without it being pre-approved or endorsed by the ACSM Education Department. These are considered "non-ACSM endorsed programs." You must obtain documentation from that organization verifying attendance and the number of CECs earned. ACSM does not accept CECs for certification exams, professional memberships or committee involvement. Please keep all documentation of non-ACSM CECs for your records. ACSM may process an audit for you the following year. Approximately 25 percent of our certified individuals are audited. If you are audited, we will request all documentation of any continuing education activity at that time.

• How do I locate back issues of ACSM's Health & Fitness Journal?

  To access ACSM's Health & Fitness Journal, please log into the ACSM website using the red LOGIN box in the upper-right of this page.

• What happened to the self-tests in Certified News and ACSM's Health & Fitness Journals?

  All ACSM self-tests, including those previously printed in Certified News and ACSM's Health & Fitness Journals are now located online and can be found at www.onlinelearning-acsm.org. Self-tests will no longer be printed in the journals beginning Spring 2012.
