FAQ - Membership

• I'm not sure what type of membership I should apply for, any advice?

  To choose the membership category that you qualify for and that best meets your interest, please go to JOIN ACSM, then click 'Membership Options & Benefits.’  This will provide a side by side comparison of our membership categories.  NOTE: All membership categories run 12 months (starting with the month you join.)

• I am a current member and need to renew my dues.

  To renew your dues, log into your online ACSM account at the MEMBER LOGIN section.  Then go to 'My Alerts & Reminders' and click the option below to pay your dues.  Follow the screens through to the check out baskets and use a credit card to complete your transaction.  Please allow 1-2 business days for your online account to reflect your payment.

• Does ACSM offer insurance coverage?

  Insurance of offered to ACSM Members and ACSM Certified Professionals.  Forrest T. Jones (FTJ) is the insurance company that represents ACSM.  To obtain rate information, contact FTJ directly at (866) 820-5183.  Identify yourself as an ACSM Member or ACSM Certified.

• Does ACSM provide list rental?

  ACSM's list rental is managed through MGI Lists. Candy Brecht is our sales representative. She can be reached at 703-706-0383 or via e-mail at  cbrecht@mgilists.com.  Candy can provide list rental agreements and pricing.  MGI Lists also has a website at www.mgilists.com.

   

   

• How do I access my online membership benefits?

  If your membership is current, you can access your online benefits through the 'MEMBER LOGIN' section of the website.  Once you login, click on the benefit you wish to access (publication, directory, etc.) listed on your profile page.

• How do I access electronic publications?

  Members may access their journals electronically though the 'MEMBER LOGIN' section of the website. Once you have logged into your account, click the journal link. This will connect you to the electronic journal on the publisher's site. From here, click either 'Current Issue' or 'Archive' to access articles. ACSM Members should have full access to view, search, and print articles.  (ACSM Members do not need to Activate or Log In to an account on the publisher's site.)  If you get an error message when trying to open an article, the publisher, LWW, has informed us that this is a result of firewalls or high security settings on the user's computer or server that prevents access. If you remove your firewalls or reduce your security settings, you should be able to immediately access. If you chose not to do this, you will need to use the follow process to go around your computer settings -
  -Click on the publication link, and choose the 'Login' button at the top of the page on the publication site.
  -Use 'acsmreferrer' as your user name
  -Use 'Password' for the password (The P must be uppercase, it is case sensitive)

• How do I change my MEMBER LOGIN Password?

  Passwords can be changed by clicking ‘Forgot Login Information?’ at the bottom of the MEMBER LOGIN box. NOTE: Passwords can only be reset if you are entering the same email address assigned to your ACSM membership account.  If your email has changed, you will need to contact the Membership & Chapter Services Department by e-mail or at 317-637-9200 to update this information.

• How do I change my address/contact information?

  Updates on address and contact information can be made thought the MEMBER LOGIN section of the website. Once logged in, click the "Edit Your Full Profile" link to update your information.

• How do I access my ACSM ID number?

  To receive your ACSM ID number, contact the Membership & Chapter Services Department.  Note:  ID numbers are assigned to all Member and Non-Member accounts in the ACSM data base. This ID does not confirm membership. If you become an ACSM Member, we will provide a Member ID card for you upon joining or renewing membership.  Once your membership has been processed, please allow up to 4 weeks for delivery of your ID card.  Please refer to your ID number regarding any activity within ACSM.

• When can I expect to receive my membership information/materials?

  You should begin receiving membership materials within 4-6 weeks of your membership being received and processed.  ACSM places publication orders with the publisher, to process, and fulfill.  Monthly journals are ordered once a month, and bi-monthly journals are ordered every other month.  Online journal access is also available through the MEMBER LOGIN section of the website, within 1-2 business days of processing your membership.

• Why did I receive a letter that my membership was not active when I'm a current Member?

  ACSM works with a marketing company who rents mailing lists from other organizations related to exercise science & sports medicine to help build our membership.  The rented data is run against our member data base to remove current members.  However, during this automated process, if the purchased data does not match your ACSM record exactly, the solicitation mails assuming that it is being sent to a non-member. 

  If you have received one of these mailings, please note on the form that you are a current ACSM member, and send that back to us via mail or fax.  We can work with the marketing firm to get your information removed from their records.

• Does ACSM certification include an ACSM membership?

  No. Certification and membership are separate within ACSM. However, if you join as a member prior to applying for certification, you are eligible to receive a discount on your certification exam.

• How can I get a membership receipt?

  For Member convenience, you can print off your receipt of payment through the "MEMBER LOGIN' section.  After logging in, click the "View Dues History" and print your payment history.

• I think I made a duplicate membership payment. Will you refund my credit card?

  If your current membership has less than 6 months left on it, we will apply your payment to extend your membership out another year.  If you have made 2 back to back payments, ACSM will request a refund.  Generally refunds are issued in the form of a check.  Sometimes we can refund the credit card used; these are evaluated on a case by case basis.

• How do I notify ACSM of a member's passing?

  ACSM wishes to acknowledge deceased members in our e-news magazine: Sports Medicine Bulletin. If you are aware of the passing of an ACSM member, please email the ACSM Membership and Chapter Services Department or send notification by mail to 401 W. Michigan St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46202. Please be sure to include the member's full name and date of death.
