The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) have announced a partnership that will make ACSM certification programs more accessible to NIRSA members.  Press Release.

Health Fitness Certifications:

The ACSM Certified Personal Trainer^SM is designed for a fitness professional involved in developing and implementing an individualized approach to exercise leadership in healthy populations and/or those individuals with medical clearance to exercise.
The ACSM Health/Fitness Instructor^®  is designed primarily for leaders of preventive health programs in corporate, commercial, and community settings aimed at low- to moderate- risk individuals or persons with controlled diseases, such as hypertension, obesity or asthma.

ACSM host continuing education course at conference

ACSM is hosting a one day CEC Course--Weight Management for the Fitness Professional—following the 2007 National Fitness Institute conference in Portland, Oregon. The course will be held on Saturday, October 27, from 8 am until 4 pm. The cost is $80 for NIRSA members and $150 for non-members. During the one day event, participants will learn how to effectively work with clients on weight-loss goals. Up to date nutrition and weight loss techniques give practitioners strategies that can be applied immediately to help clients achieve desired results.
