Proposing a Book Project

How to propose a book or digital project:

  1. Read and follow "ACSM Publication Criteria" below.
  2. Please contact Angie Chastain or Katie Feltman for the appropriate proposal form for your project.

ACSM Publications Criteria for Books Proposals

ACSM welcomes questions and publishing proposals from individuals and commercial publishers. The College publishes content for educational, professional, certification and consumer audiences.

Projects should relate to the ACSM mission statement: "The American College of Sports Medicine promotes and integrates scientific research, education, and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science to maintain and enhance physical performance, fitness, health, and quality of life."

Projects generally are divided into two categories:

  • Official ACSM books, such as ACSM’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, ACSM’s Introduction to Exercise Science, and ACSM’s Complete Guide to Fitness & Health. ACSM owns the copyright on these projects.
  • “Published in Cooperation With” projects in which ACSM reviews and endorses the content. An example includes Coaching Psychology Manual.  ACSM does not typically own the copyright on these projects.

ACSM's books are typically published by one of two primary publishing partners. The ACSM Publications Committee reviews and approves all proposals. The current chair of ACSM's Publications Committee is Jeffrey Potteiger, PhD, FACSM.

Journal Content

If you are interested in submitting a paper to one of ACSM's journals, each journal has its own requirements; you may visit the respective journal home page for more information.
