ACSM’s From Around Field science series open to students

ACSM’s From Around the Field science webinar series is designed to provide ACSM students and members an opportunity to learn more about the diverse science our members conduct. Join us for informal discussions with our ACSM members to hear more about the topics they study, the general research methodology they use and some of the interesting results their work is generating. In May, Dr. Mottola, from the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada, will outline the latest guidelines for exercise during pregnancy and provide key factors for exercise recommendations and prescription. The presentation will provide tools to use for screening before exercise and will end with how to promote physical activity for pregnant individuals in daily life.  Join us on May 16 from noon to 1 p.m. EDT for this interesting discussion. If you can’t join us live, register and we will send you the recording. Free for ACSM members.

APS hosts “Molecular Signals Mediate Increases in Muscle Size and Function” webinar

The American Physiological Society (APS) and Aurora Scientific will feature Dr. Bert Blaauw from the University of Padua in Italy for a webinar on skeletal muscle regulatory pathways and approaches to tackle muscle deficits for therapy. Dr. Blaauw will present a detailed exploration on the misconception that muscle mass and size are synonymous, explaining that increased size doesn’t always mean enhanced function. The presentation will also cover which intracellular processes are important in increasing muscle function, how muscle activity/exercise impinges on some of these processes and a strategic workflow to identify and address muscle deficits in dysfunctional muscles — a key step for targeted therapeutic interventions. Visit the APS website to learn more and register for this event on May 14 at 11 a.m. EDT.

FASEB Dataworks! hosts “Managing Research Data Across Multiple Data Repositories” salon

In May, the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) will host a salon to aid researchers navigating federal funder requirements and implementing best practices for managing research data across various formats and repositories. The presentation will feature published datasets, case studies and research projects in multiple formats from data repository experts and best practices for sharing data. Register here to join this free event on May 23 at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
