ACSM New Investigator Award

The New Investigator Award is intended to recognize new investigators who, as a consequence of their educational background/training and quality of initial independent research productivity, have begun and are likely to continue to make a significant contribution to knowledge in basic or clinical exercise science or sports medicine. In 2021, the American College of Sports Medicine Foundation will be offering two (2) New Investigator Awards. Each award will provide complimentary registration to the 2021 Annual Meeting June 1-5, 2021.

Award requirements include:

1. Applicant must have been within 6 years of completing terminal research degree or within 6 years of completing medical residency and cannot hold a level higher than assistant professor.

2. Applicant must be principal author of a submitted and accepted e-poster for presentation at the 2021 Annual Meeting, which excludes dissertation research.

3. Applicant must be a current member of ACSM or one of its Chapters at both the time of application and at the time the award is presented.  If not currently a member, please visit, and click on the “Membership” tab for information, benefits, and instructions.

4. Previous recipients of the ACSM New Investigator Award are not eligible for selection.

Award criteria include the grants obtained, publication record, research independence, future potential, and the scientific merit, quality and originality of short research paper expanded from the abstract submitted and accepted for presentation at the ACSM Annual Meeting.     NOTE: Please submit your complete application no later than April 5, 2021 even if you have not yet received an official abstract acceptance letter. Abstract acceptance will be verified internally at ACSM.
