Have more questions?
How to propose a book or digital project:

Read and follow “ACSM Publication Criteria” below.

Please contact Angie Chastain (achastain@acsm.org) for the appropriate proposal form for your project.

ACSM welcomes questions and publishing proposals from individuals and commercial publishers. The College publishes content for educational, professional, certification and consumer audiences.

Projects should relate to the ACSM mission statement: “The American College of Sports Medicine promotes and integrates scientific research, education, and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science to maintain and enhance physical performance, fitness, health, and quality of life.”

Projects generally are divided into two categories:
  • Official ACSM books, such as ACSM’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, ACSM’s Introduction to Exercise Science, and ACSM’s Complete Guide to Fitness & Health. ACSM owns the copyright on these projects.
  • “Published in Cooperation With” projects in which ACSM reviews and endorses the content. An example includes Coaching Psychology Manual. ACSM does not typically own the copyright on these projects.

ACSM’s books are typically published by a publishing partner. The ACSM Publications Committee reviews and approves all proposals.

If you are interested in submitting a paper to one of ACSM’s journals, each journal has its own requirements; you may visit the respective journal home page for more information.
ACSM welcomes submission of CVs for those interested in contributing to an ACSM journal as a reviewer or in another capacity. For more information or to submit your information, please contact the ACSM publishing staff at ACSMJournals@acsm.org.

GSSI Pre-Conference

The Physiology of Hydration: More Than Water Alone

This session explores the physiology of hydration through an integrated lens—examining how carbohydrate, sodium, flavor, and fluid interact to influence intake, absorption, retention, and performance. We’ll review current research on fluid balance, osmotic drivers, and palatability, highlighting mechanisms that underpin voluntary intake and thermoregulation. Attendees will gain insight into individualized strategies, including sweat profiling and timing approaches, to optimize euhydration and mitigate performance decrements associated with >2% body-mass loss. Practical applications will be linked to laboratory- and field-based research, ensuring translation from bench to field. This pre-conference equips you with evidence-based tools to support athlete hydration across diverse environments and sporting contexts.
