ACSM’s Brown Bag series provides ACSM students an opportunity to learn more about the diverse scientific work ACSM members conduct. Sign up for this informal discussion with an ACSM member to hear more about what they study, the general research methodology they use and some of the interesting results of their research.

This presentation will provide an overview of current knowledge and unresolved questions pertaining to brain injury risk in youth football. He will highlight his research team’s efforts to advance our understanding of this topic through a multi-year investigation of head impact exposure and neurologic function of youth football players.

Presenter:
Dr. Thayne Munce, Ph.D., FACSM Associate Director of the Sanford Sports Science Institute

Dr. Munce performs research encompassing several areas of athletic health and performance with the goal of translating evidence-based knowledge into practical applications on the playing field and in the clinic. A primary focus of his work is investigating the risk of brain injury in sports – particularly in youth football. He and his research team also study athletic readiness and thermoregulation across multiple sports.
