The ACSM Brown Bag Series in Science returned on September 30 as ACSM Fellow James Navalta, Ph.D., presented “The Dirty Side of Research: Testing Out on the Trail.” In this 60-minute webinar, Dr. Navalta will discuss why it’s important to test in a natural environment, findings specific to his research on leisure hiking as a physical activity and what he’s learned from testing wearable technology on the trail.
Dr. Navalta currently serves as an associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). He teaches anatomical kinesiology and applied exercise physiology within the undergraduate program and evaluation of physical work capacity and advanced exercise physiology at the graduate level. His research focuses on the immune response to exercise, physiological responses to outdoor exercise and the validity of wearable technology.
ACSM’s monthly Brown Bag Series provides students and professionals with an opportunity to learn more about the diverse science ACSM members conduct. Join us for these informal discussions and hear more about what members study, the research methodology they use and some of the interesting results their research generates.
