The ACSM Committee on Certification and Registry Boards (CCRB) is seeking ACSM-certified exercise professionals who are willing to serve on the CCRB’s various subcommittees.

 

The Board is seeking to fill six (6) available volunteer positions.

Subcommittee Members

  1. Certified Group Exercise Instructor (ACSM-GEI): Academician - Fitness Generalist

  1. Certified Group Exercise Instructor (ACSM-GEI): Practitioner – large fitness center/corporate fitness 

  1. Certified Exercise Physiologist Credentialing Group (ACSM-EP): Practitioner – medical fitness specialist or corporate wellness 

  1. Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-CEP): Academician - Clinical exercise testing and prescription

  1. Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-CEP): Clinical exercise director/manager 

  2. Continuing Professional Education (CPE)

Job Description

Position Summary

The CCRB is the independent and autonomous governing body for American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certification programs. Standing subcommittees of the CCRB include:

  • ACSM Certified Group Exercise Instructor® (ACSM-GEI) Credential

  • ACSM Certified Personal Trainer® (ACSM-CPT) Credential

  • ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist® (ACSM-EP) Credential

  • ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist® (ACSM-CEP) Credential

  • Continuing Professional Education (CPE)

  • International

  • Ethics and Professional Conduct

 

Qualifications

Each CCRB credentialing subcommittee abides by independent qualifications of service as follows:

  • All ACSM-GEI Credentialing Group members must possess either the ACSM Group Exercise Instructor®, ACSM Certified Personal Trainer® or ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist® certification or certifications.

  • All ACSM-CPT Credentialing Group members must possess either the ACSM-CPT or ACSM-EP certification or certifications

  • All ACSM-EP Credentialing Group members must possess an ACSM EP or ACSM CEP certification or certifications.

  • All ACSM-CEP Credentialing Group members must possess an ACSM CEP or Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist certification or certifications.

 

Terms of Office

Volunteer subcommittee members are nominated by CCRB’s executive committee (CCRB EC) and appointed by the CCRB EC chair. Each subcommittee shall not exceed nine (9) members. All subcommittee members serve a three (3) year term, with a maximum of two (2) consecutive terms. Terms begin Jan. 1 and terminate Dec. 31.

 

Time Commitment & Travel

Subcommittee members are expected to participate in all meetings called by the subcommittee chair. This includes monthly Zoom calls (60-90 minutes). There will be up to two in-person CCRB Committee on the Whole (COW) meetings per calendar year, one meeting in the fall/winter and one in the spring in conjunction with ACSM’s International Health & Fitness Summit. In-person meetings are typically two days in length, including travel, though the amount of time necessary varies. Plans and timelines for accomplishing goals are negotiated annually according to the strategic plan.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Abide by established policies, procedures, timelines and deadlines.

  • Act in a way that is consistent with the central goals and best interests of the CCRB and ACSM. Maintain confidentiality and attest to conflicts of interest.

  • Be informed. Prior to meetings, read materials and submissions, be prepared for discussions and be ready to act on items, as noted.

  • Ask questions. During the meetings, openly communicate to reach a consensus.

  • Respond in a timely manner to email (within three days and within set deadline parameters).

  • Recommend candidacy qualifications by evaluating patterns and trends in scope of practice and standards of care.

  • Develop, manage and evaluate certification examinations. This includes reviewing and modifying examination knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs); conducting role-delineation studies/job-task analyses when needed; creating and modifying examination blueprints; writing examination questions and reviewing examination complaints and challenges.

  • Develop and manage the examination item banks; analyze examination questions; review examination blueprints, assuring content validity; and develop criteria for passing scores in a consistent manner across all certification examination programs.

ACSM-GEI

  1. Academician: Fitness generalist 

  1. Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience

  1. MS required; PhD preferred

  1. Direct experience teaching or overseeing the implementation of the following: preparticipation screening; fitness testing protocols (including administration, sequencing, termination criteria); anthropometric and body composition assessments. 

  1. Academician: Motor Behavior

  1. MS required; PhD/EdD preferred

  1. Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience

  1. Direct experience teaching or overseeing the implementation of the following: acquiring and perfecting motor skills and movements using varying types of practice, experience, or other learning situations; influence of neurophysiological factors on human movement; changes in motor skills that occur over an entire lifespan and the interaction of personal characteristics and the environment.

  1. Group Fitness director/manager 

  1. Minimum of 2-3 years’ of management and/or coaching experience; e.g., fitness center director/manager, group fitness manager, business owner

  1. Direct experience in developing and/or overseeing risk management guidelines, instructor training, group fitness scheduling, and emergency policies and procedures for a health/fitness facility.

  1. Practitioner – inclusive exercise

  1. Minimum of 2-3 years’ of related experience

  1. Direct experience in administering and/or overseeing programs for one or more of the following programs:

  1. Healthy special populations (e.g., older adults, children, adolescents, pregnant women)

  1. Inclusive exercise – working knowledge of current ADA policy and adapted programming that promotes safe and effective training for individuals who have physical, sensory or cognitive disability and have been medically-cleared to exercise.

  1. Direct experience working with healthcare providers (e.g., physicians, physical therapists, dietitians, nurses)

  1. Practitioner – small fitness studio, boutique 

  1. Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience

Direct experience teaching or overseeing the implementation of the following: pathophysiology of common cardiovascular diseases, obstructive and restrictive pulmonary diseases, metabolic diseases, neoplastic, immunologic/hematologic disorders and neuromuscular diseases; ECG interpretation involving the recognition of the most common abnormalities; pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of commonly prescribed drugs (e.g., antibiotics/antivirals, anti-inflammatory drugs, pain medications, muscle relaxers, asthma medications, antihistamines, GI tract medications, hypertension and heart disease medications, antipsychotic medications, diabetes medication)
