Studies show that just 150 minutes/week of physical activity for adults can prevent and treat chronic diseases like cancer, type II diabetes and heart disease. ACSM understands the scientifically proven health benefits of physical activity. That's why we co-launched Exercise is Medicine® (EIM) in 2007 with the goal of making physical activity assessment and promotion a standard in clinical care. Our long-term vision is for health care providers to routinely assess physical activity as a “vital sign” at every patient interaction, provide brief advice, and refer patients to evidence-based fitness resources.
