Join ACSM and Technogym as Marco Narici, Ph.D., will present an overview of skeletal muscle anatomy and physiology and discuss, in detail, the neuromuscular and morphological adaptations to overloading using concentric, eccentric and variable resistance training. Dr. Narici directs the neuromuscular research laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Padova in Italy.

Presenter | Mario Narici, Ph.D.
Dr. Narici is a muscle physiologist with more than 30 years of experience in skeletal muscle research. He has served as president of the European College of Sport Science (2013-15); professor in clinical physiology at the University of Nottingham (2012-17); and chair in physiology at Manchester Metropolitan University (1999-2012). From 1983 to 1999 he was research fellow at the National Research Council of Italy and from 1994-1996 worked as Maître d’Enseignement et de Recherche at the Centre Medical Universitaire, University of Geneva, Switzerland. He holds a bachelor's degree in physiology, a master's in human and applied physiology and a Ph.D. in muscle physiology.

Dr. Narici has been a pioneer in the study of human muscle architectural, neuromuscular and tendinous adaptations with strength training, detraining and ageing. His current research interests include the age-related changes of the neuromuscular junction, the effects of chronic inactivity on the neuromuscular system, and the mechanisms of skeletal muscle remodeling in response to unloading and overloading in humans.
