The Sports Medicine Checkup, ACSM’s Podcast for Physician Members, is Now Available!

Nov. 19, 2019

sports medicine checkup thumbnailCreated exclusively for ACSM members, The Sports Medicine Checkup digs into topics that are relevant to those working in the field of sports medicine. From discussing the research behind the latest treatment options to offering advice on interviewing for fellowships, The Sports Medicine Checkup will keep sports medicine professionals up to date with the industry’s hottest topics and insights.

ACSM will be bringing these exciting conversations and insights to members by releasing episodes twice a month on ACSM.org.

The podcast features two co-hosts. Tina Master, M.D., FACSM, is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Co-Director of the Minds Matter Concussion Program and Attending Physician, Care Network - Karabots Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Alex McDonald, M.D., is a former professional triathlete who is now a family physician with Kaiser Permanente in San Diego, California. He joined Kaiser Permanente full time after completing his sports medicine fellowship with the group.

The first episode is openly available for all to listen. The co-hosts discuss the benefits to physicians of having an active presence on social media.

The second episode is available exclusively for ACSM members. The episode features exclusive audio of Dr. Stan Herring presenting at the 2019 ACSM Annual Meeting on the most recent Team Physician Consensus Statement topic: pain management in youth and adolescent athletes. These papers will not be published until early 2020, so the episode gives ACSM members a first look at the outcomes.

The upcoming third episode will feature a one-on-one conversation between Dr. Herring and co-host Dr. Master regarding Dr. Herring’s Annual Meeting presentation. They will unpack some of the details of the upcoming paper exclusively for ACSM members.
