About Us

The first meeting of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS) was held at the 1928 Olympics.  In 1954, American physical educators, physiologists, and physicians belonging to FIMS formed their own American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).  In 1972 the Midwest Regional Chapter became the first regional chapter of ACSM.

The Central States Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine received a provisional charter in 1972. In November of 1975 the chapter received a permanent charter. The chapter serves Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Since 1975, the chapter has worked as the grassroots organization aimed to enhance the experience for students and professionals in the region. The Central States Chapter offers opportunities for continuing education, networking, and collaboration.

Honor Award

The Central States Chapter has had some truly exceptional leaders. These leaders have made a significant difference in the chapter, as well as in the lives of hundreds of students. The Chapter established the Honor Award to recognize those whose service made them truly exceptional.
