Clinical Curriculum Series Available from Current Sports Medicine Reports

Oct. 9, 2023

new cover of current sports medicine reportsThe Clinical Curriculum Series published in Current Sports Medicine Reports (CSMR), was created to assist those working in graduate medical education and those in residency faculty positions. This series has been a point of emphasis and interest to CSMR readers since its launch in 2020.

“I am very excited and proud of how this came together. What started as a discussion between some fellow family medicine and sports medicine colleagues on what should be the baseline musculoskeletal training and experience, developed into a series of eight informative and influential articles,” explained CSMR Editor-in-Chief Shawn F. Kane, M.D., FACSM. “Along with family medicine, other specialties, pediatrics, emergency medicine, internal medicine and physiatry can pursue fellowship training in Primary Care Sports Medicine. As we started the family medicine manuscript, we reached out and partnered with the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and representatives of the other specialties to create the series. We then expanded on the original series and added topics related to undergraduate medical education and fellowship training. I am very open to adding to this series; if there are topics CSMR should add please reach out,” Kane said.

The series currently includes the following eight articles, all of which have been combined into a topical collection available on the CSMR website

  • Suggested Curricular Guidelines for Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine in Family Medicine Residency Training

  • Recommended Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine Model Curriculum for Emergency Medicine Residency Training

  • Recommended Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine Curriculum for Internal Medicine Residency Training

  • Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine Curriculum Guidelines for Pediatric Residents

  • Suggested Curricular Guidelines for Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Training

  • Recommended Sports Medicine Fellowship Scholarly Activity Curriculum

  • Sports Medicine Curricular Recommendations for Undergraduate Medical Education

  • Implementing a Sports Ultrasound Curriculum in Undergraduate Medical Education

CSMR is ACSM’s official monthly clinical-review e-journal. Written specifically for physician and clinician members, CSMR articles provide thorough overviews of the most current sports medicine literature. ACSM physician members receive an online subscription to this journal as a member benefit. Visit www.acsm-csmr.org to learn more about this journal.
