Leadership and Diversity Training Program

The SEACSM Leadership and Diversity Training Program (LDTP) is an opportunity for student members from minority groups underrepresented in the sciences to participate in activities that will lead to successful mentored experiences at the Annual Meeting, enhanced pathways to degree completion and career opportunities, and increased SEACSM and ACSM service.

Learn more about the LDTP program, eligibility, and how to apply at the SEACSM LDTP website. The application will be available on November 1 and the deadline to submit applications is December 16, 2022 by 5:00 pm ET.

Student AV Teams

Attention students: consider applying to be an AV Team at the 2023 SEACSM Annual Meeting in Greenville. AV teams are an excellent service opportunity and a great way to make the conference more affordable!

Student AV teams are responsible for providing audiovisual support for presenters during keynote, tutorial, symposium, and oral free communication sessions. Teams include 2–4 students and a faculty sponsor who will be attending the meeting. Each team must bring a laptop computer, projector, supporting peripherals (cords, adapters, etc.), and a laser pointer.

SEACSM will provide one hotel room for the two nights of the conference for each AV team. Only one AV team will be permitted per institution. AV Teams must arrive at the conference by noon on Thursday and stay through the lunch on Saturday.

A faculty sponsor can complete the application now. You do not need to know the names of the student team members at this time.

Undergraduate Student Bowl

The Undergraduate Student Bowl is back for the 2023 SEACSM Annual Meeting! We are looking forward to coming together for this fun Jeopardy-style team competition testing undergraduates’ exercise science knowledge. Registration will open on November 1. To register, faculty sponsors should fill out the application form on the Student Bowl website. You do not need to know the names of the student team members at this time.

Have questions in the meantime? Please contact Bhibha Das at seacsm.studentbowl@gmail.com or dasb@ecu.edu.

Call for Nominations for the SEACSM Mentoring Award

The SEACSM's Emily M. Haymes Mentoring Breakfast Committee is excited to announce the call for nominations for the second annual Emily M. Haymes Mentoring Award. This award formally recognizes the exemplary mentorship of an active SEACSM member who has made impactful contributions to their profession and/or SEACSM. Designed to allow mentees and close colleagues to identify SEACSM members who embody both the letter and spirit of mentoring, this award contributes to SEACSM’s continuing efforts to cultivate a rich, supportive environment through faculty-to-student and/or faculty-to-faculty mentoring. One member will be selected to receive this honor and will be officially recognized at the 2023 SEACSM Annual Meeting.

Learn more about the Mentoring Award and how to nominate an SEACSM member for it in the Call for Nominations. The deadline for submission of nominations is Friday, December 9, 2022 at 5:00 pm ET.

Call for nominations for the SEACSM Scholar Award, Service Award, and Executive Board

SEACSM members are invited to submit nominations for the annual SEACSM Scholar Award and Service Award.

The Henry J. Montoye Scholar Award was instituted to honor and recognize outstanding contributions to the body of knowledge related to medicine and science in sports and exercise. Scholar Award nominees should have an established record of research and at least five years of involvement with SEACSM.

The Service Award was instituted to honor and recognize outstanding service to SEACSM. Nominees should have at least five years of involvement and leadership experience with SEACSM.

We are also seeking nominations for members to serve on the SEACSM Executive Board. This year we will be selecting a President-Elect, three At-Large Members, and a Student Representative. If you know a professional or student member who is interested in taking their involvement with SEACSM to the next level, please consider nominating them to serve on the Executive Board.

Nomination letters for the Scholar Award, Service Award, and SEACSM Executive Board should be sent to SEACSM Past-President, Matt Green, at jmgreen@una.edu by Friday, November 18, 2022 at 5:00 pm ET.

Graduate Program Fair

Attention graduate program coordinators: It’s time to register for a space at the Graduate Program Fair at the 2023 SEACSM Annual Meeting.

The Graduate Program Fair is one of the most popular events at the meeting with heavy student traffic. Please consider this opportunity to market your program and recruit some of the best undergraduate and graduate students from our region.

Spaces have been filling quickly, and there are only a few spaces remaining. If you are interested in reserving one of these remaining spaces, please reach out to Michael Berry at berry@wfu.edu.

Sponsorship & Exhibiting

The Southeast ACSM chapter has a variety of opportunities available for companies and organizations to market their products and services to sports medicine and exercise science professionals in the southeast and to gain local, regional, and national exposure for their company.

One of the highlights of the conference is the opportunity for one-on-one interactions with exhibitors participating in the meeting. The opportunity to learn more about the products and services that companies and organizations have to offer sports medicine and exercise science professionals is an important part of the meeting.

The sponsors and exhibitors that participate at the annual meeting are from a wide variety of industries and institutions. These vendors offer products, equipment or services that the conference attendees frequently use in their professions.

Please contact us if you or your company or institution would like to participate as a sponsor or exhibitor, or if you know of a company or institution that you would like to see at the meeting.

Contact Michael Berry (berry@wfu.edu) as soon as possible to learn more about these opportunities.
